JTRS-Approved Radio is Widely Deployed by U.S. Department of Defense and Allied Nations ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a ceremony today, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, celebrated the shipment of its 50,000th Falcon III(R) AN/PRC-152(C), the world's most widely deployed JTRS-approved software-defined handheld radio. (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20081028/CLTU076 ) A commemorative radio in honor of the occasion was presented today to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC.) The Marines are the largest user of the AN/PRC-152(C) through the Tactical Hand Held Radio program. U.S. Congresswoman Louise M. Slaughter joined Harris RF employees and Harris RF Communications President Dana Mehnert at the ceremony to mark the occasion. First introduced in 2006, the Falcon III AN/PRC-152(C) multiband, multimission handheld radio has been widely fielded by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, many allies worldwide, and is also used by U.S. federal agencies. Earlier this year the AN/PRC-152(C) was recognized by the U.S. Army as one of 2007's greatest inventions for its role in a unique airborne relay system that provides warfighters with long-range battlefield communications. "We developed the AN/PRC-152(C) to address the interoperability needs of our armed forces with a highly capable handheld radio that fulfilled the full spectrum of mission requirements today and would be easily upgraded to address changing communication requirements in the future," said Dana Mehnert, president, Harris RF Communications. "We look forward to continue working with the services and the JTRS Joint Program Executive Office to accelerate the DoD's transition to JTRS capability with our Falcon III family of JTRS-approved radios." "This tactical radio is an advanced and reliable piece of equipment that is serving our soldiers in the field well," said Congresswoman Slaughter. "I am proud that this cutting-edge technology was developed and produced right here in Rochester. Our region is leading the nation in innovation and development and we are very proud of Harris' milestone achievement." Preference for Falcon(R) radios is being driven by a focus on customer needs and clear understanding of the military's changing mission priorities. These priorities include on-going modernization programs, including a shift to a network-centric battlefield, as well as force restructuring and expansion. The AN/PRC-152(C) offers users a wide range of capabilities such as SINCGARS interoperability, APCO P25, ultra high-frequency (UHF) ground-to-ground line-of-sight communications, close-air support and programmable encryption. The AN/PRC-152(C) also serves as the handheld-based transceiver of the Falcon III AN/VRC-110, a high-performance, multiband vehicular system that serves as an improved alternative to legacy SINCGARS radios. The radio has been certified as fully compliant with version 2.2 of the JTRS Software Communications Architecture and Type-1 compliant by the NSA. Harris is providing the DoD with radios through the JTRS program's Consolidated Interim Single-Channel Handheld Radio (CISCHR) contract, the prime vehicle for providing JTRS-approved handheld radios to individual services. Harris RF Communications is a leading global supplier of secure radio communications products and systems for military, government and commercial organizations. The Falcon family of software-defined tactical radio products and systems include manpack, handheld, vehicular, strategic fixed-site and shipboard applications.
