Society of Women Engineers Recognizes Harris Corporation Employees for Professional Achievements

MELBOURNE, Fla., March 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Joanne Abowitt,
a Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) systems engineer, has received the
Outstanding Technical Achievement Award from the Space Coast
Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) for her drive and
innovation in developing advanced military satellite communications
systems. Abowitt was one of eight women engineers who work for
Harris who were nominated and recognized in different categories
during the 37th annual SWE awards banquet held recently at the
Rockledge Country Club in conjunction with National Engineer's
Week. "The Space Coast Section SWE awards recognize the talents and
contributions of these extraordinary women to the field of
engineering and to our communities," said Kathy Whitcomb,
president, SWE-Space Coast Section. "We are fortunate to be in a
high-technology area where companies such as Harris are attracting
engineers of the highest caliber who serve as outstanding examples
of professional leadership." Abowitt joined Harris in 2004 and has
worked on a number of key military satellite communications
programs, including the U.S. military Transformational Satellite
(TSAT) initiative, for which Harris is teamed with Boeing to
develop an advanced new satellite constellation with more bandwidth
and increased communications flexibility. She has more than 20
years of experience in engineering. Other Harris employees
nominated and recognized included: -- Outstanding Woman Engineer -
Kelly Breeden, software engineer; Beth Findley, engineering
director; and Patty Martin, system support engineer -- Technical
Achievement Award - Christine Phillips, software engineer --
Distinguished New Woman Engineer - Karen Dawson, systems
integration and test engineer; Dara Rickles, electrical engineer;
and Tammy Stepp, electrical design engineer "Each of these women
