Imager Works With Ground Sensors to Deliver High-Resolution Images
in Seconds ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and
information technology company, today introduced the Harris Falcon
Watch(TM) RF-5408-RI Remote Imager, which provides high-resolution
images that help military and law enforcement respond quickly to
potential threats. The Remote Imager is part of the company's
Falcon Watch Remote Intrusion Detection and Surveillance System.
Available immediately, the Remote Imager works as part of a
deployed network of Falcon Watch unattended ground sensors. The
ground sensors "cue" the Remote Imager to capture process and relay
images of intrusions to military and law enforcement officials,
providing a timely visual reference in a range of situations. It
can identify vehicles at distances up to 700 meters, and individual
people at distances up to 300 meters. The Remote Imager can operate
for up to six months between battery changes, depending on the
frequency of target detections. "The Remote Imager provides an
important new source of information for military and law
enforcement personnel," said Robert Post, product manager for
sensor systems, Harris RF Communications. "Those personnel have
limited resources and must prioritize their responses to reported
intrusions. The Remote Imager will give them a clearer picture of a
developing situation and help them make better decisions." The
Remote Imager is ideal for use in long-term, unattended operations
such as intelligence gathering and border security. It also can be
used to augment perimeter security at installations such as
military bases, remote airfields, ammunition dumps, or civilian
infrastructure such as nuclear power plants. The unit also is small
enough to be easily placed within terrain features such as mountain
passes and ridges that otherwise may be unobservable from within
the installation. The Remote Imager weighs only five pounds and
contains both thermal infrared and visual imaging capabilities in a
single package. Deployment can be performed without a personal
computer, which minimizes emplacement time. Integration with the
Falcon Watch system allows for image reporting via Iridium or
line-of-sight tactical radio links. The Remote Imager contains
sophisticated algorithms to insure that only high-value information
is reported, thereby maximizing operational battery life and
reducing delays in receiving images. The Harris Falcon Watch Remote
Intrusion Detection and Surveillance System provides a complete
solution for unattended sensing of personnel and/or vehicles in
harsh environments. Covertly deployed on the front line, Falcon
Watch Sensors process input from seismic, magnetic, and passive
infrared detectors, and transmit alarms when valid events occur,
using tactical radios including the Falcon(R) II RF-5800M-HH
Advanced Multiband Tactical Radio. Data messages can be sent to the
RF-5405VH-GW Intelligent Gateway for long-haul connectivity using
the Iridium Satellite System. About Harris Corporation Harris RF
