MELBOURNE, Fla., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has added General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies to its team to compete for a potential 15-year, $600 million U.S. Army Modernization of Enterprise Terminals (MET) program to provide the next generation of global military satellite communications terminals. The contract is expected to be awarded in May 2008. The first terminal is scheduled to be fielded in 2010, and the program completed in 2020. Harris is acting as the prime contractor in the pursuit, with General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies adding its experience in developing and providing successful X and Ka-band satellite communications products. The MET program will replace up to 80 aging AN/GSC-52, GSC-39, FSC-78 and other strategic satellite communications terminals around the world with new, X- and Ka-band capable terminals that will work with the new Wideband Global Satellite constellation as well as legacy satellite systems. The program terminals will range in size from a transportable 6-meter antenna to a fixed, 11-meter antenna version. Many of the terminals will be used by the Missile Defense Agency and will be designed with full electromagnetic pulse protection. These terminals will operate with legacy satellite constellations, such as Defense Satellite Communications System, XTAR, and Wideband Global Satellite system, as well as support Teleport and Standardized Tactical Entry Point locations across the globe. "Our team is uniquely qualified for the MET project, based on our extensive, proven experience in multi-band antenna systems such as AN/GSC-52 Modernization, Ground-based Midcourse Defense and Heavy Terminal/Medium Terminal," said Sheldon Fox, president of Department of Defense Programs for Harris Defense Communications and Electronics. "We are very pleased to have General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies as a member of our team and look forward to providing the advanced antenna and systems integration technology that is critical to this nationally important program." "General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies has a long history of providing successful communications products and systems for the U.S. Army through its VertexRSI brand of antennas and electronic products," said Gary Kanipe, vice president and division general manager for General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies. "Working with Harris, our products and technical ability will help to ensure that the Army's next generation global satellite communications terminals meet present and future requirements."
