Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and
information technology company, has been selected to provide its
advanced weapon data link technology for The Boeing Company's
(NYSE:BA) Small Diameter Bomb Increment II precision-guided weapon.
The Boeing Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) Increment II weapon will
enable the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps to attack moving
targets in all weather conditions. The Harris data link enables the
weapon to receive target location updates during flight and to feed
back information such as weapon status and bomb impact assessment.
The data link solution combines the advanced technology of Harris
software-defined, Type 1 encrypted Falcon(R) III radios with a
small tactical terminal provided by teammate ViaSat. The Boeing SDB
Increment II is a planned evolution of the combat-proven SDB I
GBU-39 weapon, which has been used in Iraq and Afghanistan since
October 2006. The SDB I uses a combat-proven, anti-jam GPS
electronics module from Harris to protect against the unintentional
or intentional interference or jamming of the weapon's satellite
guidance receivers. "The selection of our data link is a credit to
the performance and flexibility achieved by integrating our
Falcon(R) III handheld radio technology with ViaSat's Link 16 Small
Tactical Terminal," said Dan Pearson, group president of Harris
Defense Communications and Electronics. "Harris has a long history
of success in the development of weapon data links, and the
Harris-ViaSat team is fully committed to providing Boeing a data
link that exceeds expectations and contributes to the success of
Boeing's SDB Increment II precision-guided weapon." Harris is a
certified Gold Level Preferred Supplier to Boeing. About Harris
