Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced that its Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Telecommunications Infrastructure (FTI) team
has successfully transferred all operational monitoring and
management of the FAA's new FTI Mission Support network to the
Harris Network Operations Control Center (NOCC). Completed ahead of
schedule in June 2006, the Mission Support network replaced the
FAA's legacy, wide-area Administrative Data Transmission Network
(ADTN) and is now online and being used to transport administrative
functions such as payroll and e-mail. Harris is the prime
contractor and system architect for the overall FTI program that
was awarded in 2002. The announcement was made during the 51st
Annual Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) Conference and
Exposition (Harris Booth #415) being held October 29 through
November 1, 2006 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington,
DC. "Completion of the Mission Support network and transfer of its
operational control to the FTI NOCC reduces the FAA's operating
costs and offers the added benefits of improved network
availability through the use of highly reliable, state-of-the-art
equipment, enhanced security monitoring and a team of dedicated
professionals managing the network around the clock," said John
O'Sullivan, FTI program vice president, Harris Government
Communications Systems Division. "The Harris team's ability to
manage and operate the FAA's operational and administrative
networks from a consolidated operations center creates a higher
level of synergy and efficiency for the FAA." The Mission Support
network transition included the installation of new services at
more than 800 FAA locations, ranging from the smallest staffed
sites to FAA Headquarters in Washington, DC and large regional
offices throughout the United States. During the 15-year FTI
program, Harris is upgrading and improving telecommunications and
operations functions at more than 4,000 FAA facilities nationwide,
providing the FAA with a secure, more efficient network that is
projected to save hundreds of millions of dollars over the life of
the program. Harris Government Communications Systems Division
