MELBOURNE, Fla., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a global provider of turnkey network management systems, today announced that PORTA, Ecuador's leading mobile operator and provider of leased-line and Internet services, has purchased the Harris NetBoss(R) network and service management platform to manage a nationwide network that serves more than 3.5 million subscribers. NetBoss will assist PORTA in its efforts to significantly reduce operating expenditures by centralizing management of its network while enhancing service quality. The Harris Service Assurance solution selected for the project includes fault management and automated Service Impact Analysis, providing PORTA with the ability to instantly identify which leased-line services and customers are affected by a network fault. With the NetBoss easy-to-use interface, PORTA's administrators can simply navigate through graphical screens and make quick, proactive decisions when a network fault occurs. PORTA's leased-line customers will be able to access the NetBoss system via the Internet in order to monitor their bandwidth utilization by day, month or trimester. "Given that our network has a diverse set of elements, as well as our choice to offer some of our customers visibility into our network, our administrators required a management platform that could effectively and proactively manage each and every device using a single platform with one uniform screen," said Salvador Alvarado, technical director of PORTA. "The ability of NetBoss to significantly improve our network operations by streamlining multiple processes, combined with Harris' superior Service Management solutions and expertise, made it the best choice for our needs." "As networks are extended to offer more coverage and more services, operators are looking for the most efficient, automated ways to manage their infrastructure," said Rich Pappalardo, director of International Sales for Harris' NetBoss Business Unit. "NetBoss provides these companies with the means to achieve this goal, as well as automate the correlation of network failures with services and customers affected. This allows operators to combine network and service management processes, reduce the amount of time and money spent managing their network and improve the quality of service for their customers." PORTA is a subsidiary of America Movil with service in more than 1,000 cities and towns in all four regions of Ecuador. Building on a long and successful history of working together, this implementation of the NetBoss platform marks the tenth installation of Harris' NetBoss system within the America Movil organization and the first in Ecuador.
