TRuepoint Radios Will Quadruple Network Capacity for Ecuador's National Petroleum Company RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading global provider of wireless equipment and services, today announced that PetroEcuador, Ecuador's national petroleum company, has selected Harris' TRuepoint(TM) digital microwave radios to provide Voice over IP (VoIP), video conferencing, video surveillance, access control and telemetry services. TRuepoint(TM), which leads the industry in performance, flexibility and reliability, has been deployed to provide PetroEcuador with the high-capacity infrastructure needed to support these services while sustaining the legacy network already in place. Harris' TRuepoint digital microwave radios have quadrupled PetroEcuador's network capacity from 8 Mbps to 32 Mbps, enabling advanced applications such as integrated VoIP and data networking. TRuepoint(TM) now makes it possible to interconnect all of the PBX switching centers over a flexible wireless network. In the future, PetroEcuador's TRuepoint(TM)-enabled network will be used to implement video surveillance of the pipeline. The installation of video cameras along the pipeline will allow for video monitoring during crude oil transfers to refineries, helping to prevent oil disruption and to ensure continual service within the region. "Supporting such a diverse set of applications while streamlining our network operations was a challenging prospect," said Ing. Julio Vinueza, telecom manager of PetroEcuador. "The TRuepoint radio's flexibility and capacity make it possible to support multiple voice, video and data services, as well as to provide reliable interconnectivity between our headquarters in Quito and the most distant points in the heart of the Amazon. Additionally, TRuepoint(TM) allows us to considerably reduce our sparing costs and contributes to lower operating expenditures overall." Utility companies, including petroleum companies and power companies, often rely on private networks to monitor and manage their communications infrastructure. The TRuepoint radio's unique platform provides these organizations with the ability to implement new, IP-based applications while simultaneously supporting the legacy applications already in place. This flexibility enables utility operators to significantly reduce operating and management expenses and increase network capacity by using a single platform for all point-to-point wireless applications. "The TRuepoint radio's outstanding performance continues to lead the industry and delivers significant cost benefits to our customers," said John Koenig, vice president, Harris Microwave Communications Division. "In Ecuador, petroleum is a significant source of revenue for the government and the TRuepoint radio's flexibility translates into added efficiency and security for one of the country's most valuable resources."
