LONDON, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (DSEi, booth #321) -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading supplier of secure, tactical radios for defense forces worldwide, today announced that it has received a $7 million order for its Bowman high-frequency (HF) tactical radios from the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (RNLMC). The radios will be a key element of the RNLMC's New-Integrated Marines Communication and Information System (NIMCIS). NIMCIS is a two-year programme to equip the RNLMC with the Bowman C4I system, which is being rolled out to the UK Armed Forces by General Dynamics UK Limited. General Dynamics UK Limited is the prime systems integrator for NIMCIS, which brings together products from world-class communications and command and control suppliers, providing a C4I capability that is replacing different communications systems now in use with a single system designed to provide both voice and battlefield information functionality. "The Royal Netherlands Marines have used Harris radios since 1997, and we are very pleased that they have again selected Harris for the very latest in reliable and secure radio communications," said Steve Marschilok, vice president and general manager of international products and systems business, Harris RF Communications Division. "The Bowman radio will provide them with highly advanced communications features as well as the interoperability that is so crucial to interfacing with other Netherlands armed forces and allied forces." NIMCIS will provide the RNLMC with a secure voice and data communications infrastructure capable of supporting a range of network-enabled command, control, communications, computing and intelligence systems. A key feature of NIMCIS will be the interoperability it provides between the Netherlands and UK forces, as allies and as part of the UK/NL Amphibious Force, as well as interoperability with other allied forces. "The use of Harris HF radios will ensure reliable HF communications vital for the RNLMC," said Commander Henkelman, project leader for NIMCIS. "I'm very pleased with this, and it's one worry less on the project." The high-performance HF radios -- designed for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence's Bowman Tactical Radio Programme -- are based on Harris' highly successful Falcon(R) II Tactical Radio product family, which is in standardized use by U.S., NATO, Partnership for Peace (PfP) and other defense forces around the world. The Harris HF radio is the first Bowman radio to be crypto certified by the Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG). It features third- generation automatic link establishment that automates connectivity by selecting the best frequencies. The radio operates beyond-line-of-site as well as line-of-site (LOS) communications, enabling communicators to keep up with a widely distributed and fast-moving theatre of operations without the need for retransmission stations. With the new digital voice enhancements, voice quality is as clear as LOS VHF radios. Harris expects to provide more than 10,000 HF radios under the Bowman Programme. General Dynamics UK is currently delivering the Bowman system to the UK MoD. General Dynamics was awarded the (1.7 billion pounds Sterling) Prime Contractor and Systems Integration contract for the Bowman secure, digital voice and data communications system in September 2001. A subsequent amendment to the original contract in December 2002 included the additional provision of an information Infrastructure as part of the ComBAT, Infrastructure, and Platform BISA programme. Bowman/CIP, as the joint programme is known, will provide the infrastructure to support a range of network-enabled systems, over the next 30 years.
