LONDON, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- (DSEi, booth #321) -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), a leading supplier of secure, tactical radios for defense forces worldwide, today announced that it has received a third order for its Falcon(R) II multiband AN/PRC-117F(C) tactical radios from The Netherlands Ministry of Defense (MoD). The radios will be used by the Royal Netherlands Army and the Royal Netherlands Air Force for ground-to-air communications in support of a United Nations mission in Afghanistan. The value of the three radio contracts now totals $5 million. "The AN/PR-117F radios fulfill a necessary requirement for tactical satellite communication equipment in the Afghanistan theatre of operation," said Alle de Jong, Project Manager Air Support Radio for the Netherlands Defense Materiel Organization. "They enable our forces to communicate in different roles for different international missions in a secure manner." "We are pleased that The Netherlands MoD has selected Harris to meet the radio communications needs of its Army and Air Force, and believe that this follow-on order reflects the high degree of confidence they have in Harris radios from their use in previous missions," said Steve Marschilok, vice president and general manager of international products and services, Harris RF Communications Division. The forces of NATO and Partnership for Peace countries such as The Netherlands interact frequently during combined military exercises and during U.S. and NATO-led peacekeeping missions. Many of these nations have now standardized on Harris' Falcon II radios -- a move that has become increasingly important as countries seek communications interoperability for joint missions. The Harris Falcon II AN/PRC-117F(C) tactical radio is in widespread use by U.S. forces and U.S. allies in critical missions around the world for ground- to-ground, ground-to-air, and ship-to-shore communications. This multiband, multimission manpack radio uses advanced Harris software-defined radio (SDR) technology to provide battle-proven embedded COMSEC, SATCOM, and ECCM capabilities. It covers the entire 30 to 512 MHz frequency range, using two antenna ports for optimum range performance. Harris also recently announced that it has received a contract valued at $7 million for its Bowman high-frequency (HF) tactical radios from the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (RNLMC). The Bowman radio, which is based on the Falcon II radio series, will enable the RNLMC to replace different communications systems now in use with a single system designed to provide both voice and battlefield information functionality.
