New Metadata Initiative Ensures Intelligent, Automated Delivery and Assured Transactions CINCINNATI, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In support of workflow efficiency and new service provisioning for broadcasters and content providers, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) will showcase its H-Class(TM) Content Delivery Platform for moving and managing content from the time it is created to the time it is distributed to multiple consumer devices, at IBC 2005 (Harris Broadcast Communications Division: Hall 8, Stand 8.291, Amsterdam RAI). (Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20050830/NYTU041 ) The H-Class Platform is a scalable, standards-based, enterprise-class platform that supports a highly integrated set of software applications. Through intelligent use of metadata, the H-Class Platform is the first solution of its kind to provide a layer of intelligence that enables media and entertainment companies to automatically transfer content with associated business rules for greater efficiencies, assured transactions and increased profitability. "By providing a consistent, structured and well-specified development environment, organizations can -- for the first time -- realize the dream of integrating their applications across the digital supply chain with the common thread of metadata linking business functions with operational mandates," stated Jeremy Wensinger, president of Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "The H-Class Platform is committed to enabling business agility for enhanced productivity in the rapidly changing media landscape, while simultaneously lowering total cost of ownership and creating new revenue opportunities for our customers." Demonstrations in the Harris stand will show delivery of revenue- generating services -- such as mobile video, IPTV, high-definition (HD) television and video-on-demand. H-Class(TM) Content Delivery Applications Suite will demonstrate the unique ability to manage and transport content from ingest to consumption via multiple, simultaneous multi-format delivery streams delivering content to different receiving devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), mobile phones and personal computers (PCs). The H-Class Platform demonstration will illustrate multiple and distinct stages in the broadcast workflow, including media ingest, play-out automation and transport. The new H-Class(TM) Media Business System will be shown sharing traffic, billing, and program scheduling rules with these applications as content moves through the digital media supply chain. The H-Class Platform demonstration will show support for: - Integration of the current 'physical' world of tapes and libraries with digital business - Multiple, simultaneous multi-format delivery streams - Transport of metadata down- and up-stream in the workflow process - Integrated cross-departmental workflows - Dynamic changes to an active program schedule According to In-Stat, a leading market research firm and a division of Reed Elsevier, forecasts predict a 45 percent cumulative annual growth rate in worldwide revenues for IP-based video delivery connection services, increasing from $346 million in 2002 to $2.2 billion in 2007. In-Stat reports that an increasing number of subscribers and increasing average revenue per subscriber drive the growth. Harris understands that realizing this market opportunity requires that media and entertainment companies achieve more acute control over their content in order to protect the intellectual property rights of the owner, enable complete and accurate billing for the use of content in commercial applications, deliver to the appropriate consumer appliance, and ensure quality of service. The H-Class Suite provides a means for integrating many disparate media business processes into a modular system. That system moves content through the broadcast workflow in a consistent and intelligent fashion by interpreting and acting upon the metadata associated with the content. The H-Class Platform solution features applications that reside on, and interact with, a rich service layer to facilitate database abstraction, secure routing of content, and most importantly, meaningful business transactions. The H-Class(TM) service layers include: Database Services, Workflow Services, Platform Services and Open Services. The initially targeted H-Class Suite includes: Media Business Systems, Digital Asset Management, Media Ingest, Play-out Automation and Intelligent Transport. These applications leverage the H-Class Platform, allowing an operator's business to be integrated and scaled across the various hardware systems throughout the network. An affiliated H-Class Alliance Program makes it possible for service, software, content and hardware providers to integrate to the Platform and enable their offerings to benefit from the platform's content delivery capabilities.
