Demonstrations at APCO 2005 Feature the Harris SafeGuard(TM) and SecNet 11(R) Plus Applications in a Simulated Chemical Emergency Response DENVER, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To show how third-party applications can integrate with the H-Class(TM) Content Delivery Platform to support mission-critical communications for emergency response, Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) will demonstrate its use in scenarios that require specific situational analysis and security capabilities at this year's Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials conference (APCO). The demonstration will show how public safety agencies can leverage the H-Class platform to integrate valuable high-bandwidth content (audio, video and pictures) typically stored within agencies' existing databases, and manage and distribute the content to users of varying types. Designed to address communications interoperability both at the technical and operational levels, the H-Class Content Delivery Platform scales from single-site to nationwide deployments, across jurisdictions and various communications disciplines. (Harris Corporation, Broadcast Communications Division, Booth #1729, APCO 2005, Denver Convention Center, Denver, CO, August 22 - 25.) Utilizing the situational analysis application known as SafeGuard(TM) and the SecNet 11(R) Plus product for secure wireless networking, APCO attendees will witness a simulated chemical emergency response in which pertinent hazardous material data in the form of rich media files (e.g., 3-D visualization, maps, live video and voice) are presented in a multimedia environment for enhanced understanding and better decision making. Virtual dispatchers and first responders will receive the rich media display on laptop receivers via secure distribution of the SafeGuard files over IP wired and wireless networks. The integrity of the file will be maintained by the Type 1 (SECRET-level), National Security Agency-certified SecNet 11 Plus product, which enables users to quickly assemble a network and maintain secure and mobile wireless communications. "Harris' concepts about broadband, wide-area mobile delivery are very much in line with Public Safety initiatives," said Ron Haraseth, director, Automated Frequency Coordination, APCO International. "There is a great need for any methodology to aggregate various delivery platforms and manage the data flow, access rights and content in public safety. Integrated approaches such as Harris' help us to improve communications interoperability today and in future when multiple agencies and jurisdictions must share the infrastructure to deliver content and, at the same time, capitalize upon the economy of scale of shared resources." "We're really pleased with the progress we've made since the debut of the H-Class Content Delivery Platform at IWCE 2005. Within a span of four months, we're demonstrating the platform's ability to run third-party applications," said John Delay, director of strategic management for Networking Solutions, Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "The APCO demonstration will highlight its adaptability to easily integrate new and existing applications while exploiting the complete value of the underlying features of the platform."
