At The Durst Organization NetVX(TM) Networking Platform and
TRuepoint(TM) Microwave Radio System Streamline Management of Eight
Premier Mid-Town Manhattan Properties While Enhancing Overall
Communications LAS VEGAS, April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Harris
Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced the installation of the
NetVX(TM) high-speed, integrated networking platform from its
Broadcast Communications Division and the TRuepoint(TM)
next-generation microwave radio system from its Microwave
Communications Division in eight buildings operated by The Durst
Organization, an owner, developer and manager of premier mid-town
Manhattan properties. This joint solution, which replaces Durst's
current T1 system, allows the company to support large-scale,
bi-directional data transmission, while mitigating network
interruptions that could result from fire, blackouts or underground
construction. NetVX provides Durst with IP-based connectivity,
enabling flexible, high- speed data distribution, while TRuepoint
ensures exceptionally reliable data transmission with "protected"
wireless communications utilizing redundant network elements. Durst
is using the Harris data communications solution across eight of
its premier mid-town Manhattan properties. "Our new, enhanced,
high-speed IP integrated network eliminates the bandwidth
constraints we were experiencing. The increased bandwidth and
enhanced connectivity help move data back and forth more
expeditiously, resulting in higher productivity, better reliability
and lower network costs," said John Lyons, manager of
Communications and Broadcast Operations at Durst. "Given our
long-standing business relationship with Harris," Lyons added, "we
are confident that this solution will not only exceed our current
expectations, but also give Durst a very desirable upgrade path
going forward. At the end of the day, T1 is no longer satisfactory
for data transfer. By installing a premium network designed to
handle large scale bi-directional data transmission, Durst has
placed itself at the forefront of the industry." The network
operations center (NOC), which acts as an information hub, is
located in Durst's flagship building at 4 Times Square. Housing the
network's communication backbone, the building is linked to
Westside and Eastside properties by means of an OC-3 155 Mbps
connection. The remaining five buildings use a 45 Mbps connection,
enjoying a 10-fold upgrade. These improvements enable tenants to
send large data files, such as images and presentations --
previously impractical given the limitations of the T1 system.
Harris' system upgrade increased the network's communication
capabilities from a bottlenecked transmission rate of 1 to 5 Mbps
to an unprecedented 155 Mbps. "The immense boost in bandwidth that
TRuepoint delivers to Durst is a perfect example of the great
return on investment that microwave technology delivers to
organizations," stated Jayne Leighton, vice president for North
American sales and services for Harris Microwave Communications
Division. "Enterprises that need higher data rates than those
afforded by leased lines can use digital microwave radios to
quickly deliver higher speeds at much lower costs." "Durst is one
of the key property owners in Manhattan," said Jim Denny, vice
president and general manager of Harris Broadcast Communications'
Networking and Government Solutions business unit. "Their tenants
rely on Durst's exceptional management services, and we are pleased
that Durst relies on Harris as part of this major network
installation." About NetVX(TM) NetVX is an integrated, high-speed
