Eni SpA (ENI.MI) and the Italian research and development agency
ENEA signed a memorandum of understanding Thursday to research
magnetic confinement fusion, the Italian oil major said.
The agreement lays out the possibility of creating a company to
work together on the Divertor Tokamak Test "to produce clean, safe,
sustainable energy," Eni said.
The DTT is a research project currently underway at ENEA's
center in Frascati, Italy. It is an experimental machine for
providing scientific responses to issues in the fusion process such
as managing very high temperatures, the company said.
The fusion agreement also requires the two parties to jointly
develop strategies to carry out the DTT project and carry out an
assessment to determine the best structure for the company, Eni
said.
