ENI SpA (ENI.MI) said Monday that its Eni New Energy subsidiary
has started building a 31-megawatt solar power plant in Sardinia in
Italy.
The Italian oil-and-gas company said the plant at the Porto
Torres industrial park in Sassari will be completed by the end of
2019. The company said 70% of the energy produced will go to
companies at the industrial park, cutting carbon dioxide emissions
by 26,000 metric tons annually.
The project is ENI's second in Sardinia, following the
26-megawatt plant in Assemini which was completed in 2018, the
company said.
The projects are part of ENI's broader environmental plans, in
which the company is investing 260 million euros ($294.6 million)
to generate more than 220 megawatts of renewable energy in Italy by
2021 and lower CO2 emissions by more than 150,000 metric tons.
