•    Share prices of Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) rose marginally after the defense supplier said it would initiate a cost-cutting program by laying off 1500 employees in its Aeronautics business area which will help increase the operational efficiency of the company's products

•    The U.S. Department of Energy granted Arizona-based First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) conditional loan guarantees worth $4.5 billion for three projects managed by the solar company. Following this development, share prices of  the photovoltaic solar panel maker rose 2.20% to close at 132.27

•    NetApp Inc.’s (NASDAQ:NTAP) shares rose 5.64% a day after the  storage-networking equipment provider  said the company has decided to repurchase common stock worth $200 million
