China United Network Communications Group Co., the parent of China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU), said Monday companies that will launch devices using its new mobile phone operating system include Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE), Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (MMI) and HTC Corp. (2498.TW)

ZTE Corp. (0763.HK), Huawei Technologies Co. and TCL Corp. (000100.SZ) will also launch devices under the "Wophone" brand, Unicom's parent said in a statement. It said the launch of the devices is imminent, but didn't elaborate.

The Wophone platform's operating system has a Linux core and is meant for "smart terminals," it said. The company said it isn't based on Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android.
