China Unicom Parent: Samsung, Motorola, HTC To Offer 'Wophone' Devices

China United Network Communications Group Co., the parent of
China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU), said Monday companies that
will launch devices using its new mobile phone operating system
include Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE), Motorola Mobility
Holdings Inc. (MMI) and HTC Corp. (2498.TW)
ZTE Corp. (0763.HK), Huawei Technologies Co. and TCL Corp.
(000100.SZ) will also launch devices under the "Wophone" brand,
Unicom's parent said in a statement. It said the launch of the
devices is imminent, but didn't elaborate.
The Wophone platform's operating system has a Linux core and is
meant for "smart terminals," it said. The company said it isn't
based on Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android.
