Swedish telecom equipment vendor Telefon AB LM Ericsson (ERIC) said Tuesday it has secured a three-year managed services deal with Chinese operator China Unicom's (CHU) provincial company Anhui Unicom.

Under the contract, Ericsson will be responsible for field maintenance of base station sites, fixed networks and transmissions in five cities in the Anhui province in eastern China, the company said.

"We hope that by becoming Anhui Unicom's largest managed services supplier we will set a benchmark for field maintenance services througout China Unicom," said Ericsson's President of China and North East Asia, Mats H Olsson.

The order value wasn't disclosed.

Anhui is China's eighth most populated province and has a mobile penetration of around 50%, Ericsson said.
