China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (CHU) said Thursday it has sold more than 100,000 units of the Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone in China since the Oct. 30 launch.

"iPhone has been a great success and we are very pleased with the response from Chinese consumers," China Unicom Chief Executive Chang Xiaobing said in a statement.

Chang said Nov. 3 the company had sold "more than 5,000" iPhones since the launch four days earlier, an underwhelming initial response compared with other markets. When the first iPhone went on sale in the U.S. in 2007, it sold 270,000 units in the first 30 hours.
