BMC Software(R) Announces New Business Objects Partnership and Reporting Products to Advance Business Service Management Strategy New PATROL(R) Reporting Leverages Universal Infrastructure to Deliver Executive Reports Linking IT and Business Services HOUSTON, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BMC Software, Inc., (NYSE:BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced that it has selected Business Objects, (NASDAQ:BOBJ), the world's leading provider of business intelligence (BI) solutions, as the platform for its reporting and business intelligence solutions. Under the OEM agreement, BMC Software will build a single standard reporting system based on the Business Objects BI and reporting platform to speed adoption of the company's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, which enables customers to better link IT priorities and resources with their company's overall business objectives. As a result of this partnership, BMC Software is announcing PATROL(R) Reporting, a key BSM component that accelerates alignment of IT data with business services by delivering powerful executive-level reporting capabilities. BSM enables companies to understand and predict the impact of technology changes on the business, and conversely, how changes in the business impact IT, resulting in improved customer service and business performance. The new PATROL Reporting solution provides users a flexible, easy-to-use reporting infrastructure to schedule, analyze, manage and distribute custom reports for IT and executive audiences based on data collected from multiple BMC Software management solutions. IT departments are increasingly charged with aligning their operations with the business, making effective reporting to executives, business and IT managers and customers a top priority. The Business Objects and BMC Software partnership offers BMC Software accelerated time to market for their product and reduces development costs, while providing BMC Software customers a world- class reporting solution with significantly expanded depth and breadth. PATROL Reporting, the first product of this partnership, was created to allow reports to be managed in three phases: design and development; publish and schedule; and run and distribute. This flexible approach makes it easy for multiple users to push customized information to key audiences, such as executives who require highly summarized information or IT administrators seeking technical details on a system. The new reporting product also offers customers an extensive selection of predefined reports and the power to develop custom reports. "By partnering with Business Objects, BMC Software is providing much-awaited improvements in its reporting capabilities with PATROL Reporting," said Marvee Lansigan, Systems Management Consultant at Strategic Technologies, a leading advisor and integrator of business and technology. "Our reporting requirements will be simplified by the ease-of-use, consistent administrative and design interfaces and faster and more streamlined data transfer mechanism in PATROL Reporting. I also am looking forward to expanded report templates and designs for the rest of the BMC Software solutions." PATROL Reporting not only simplifies the process of creating production- quality custom reports, but also enables end-users and internal product groups to include advanced capabilities, such as dynamic drill-down features that allow data to be explored and analyzed. The new solution is available via a single Web portal from which users can access, view, search for, sort, schedule and create reports. "Business Objects offers the most powerful reporting platform in the industry," said Wyatt Mullin, vice president of global OEM at Business Objects. "Through the OEM agreement, BMC Software customers will benefit from having this robust functionality directly integrated into PATROL Reporting. Business Objects will continue to work closely with BMC Software to expand product integration and enable companies to more easily improve business performance." "Delivering highly intuitive, user friendly IT solutions is integral to empowering companies to manage IT and services from a business perspective. Our partnership with Business Objects reflects BMC Software's commitment to aligning with market leaders and enables us to offer new reporting capabilities with industry leading functionality, reliability and maintainability," said Mary Smars, vice president and general manager, Distributed Systems Management, BMC Software. "PATROL Reporting sets a new standard in IT reporting and information delivery, making it easy for IT departments to report back to key executives, business managers and customers." PATROL Reporting is designed to support the largest enterprises, offering the high levels of scalability, security and customization that they require. PATROL Reporting will provide the initial structure and installation groundwork that will be leveraged by all product lines at BMC Software in the future. BMC Software customers will be able to leverage a single standard reporting system to support report design, report history, report viewing and user/security management, together with a single report repository. BMC Software will continue to bolster their product portfolio by leveraging the common reporting foundation, PATROL Reporting. The next product to extend the reporting functionality is SLM Express. SLM Express is a BMC Software service level management solution that allows businesses to define, measure, monitor, manage, and report on service level agreements (SLAs) from an end-user perspective. (see today's related release, "BMC Software Delivers New Service Management Solutions"). SLM Express 1.4 makes use of BMC Software's partnership with Business Objects by now offering SLA report templates for use with the new PATROL Reporting product to develop comprehensive reports for IT and executive audiences. Pricing and Availability PATROL Reporting includes two components, Base Reporting for PATROL and BMC Reporting Studio, and is available immediately. Base Reporting for PATROL, which provides the reporting infrastructure and a wide range of predefined reports, is available without charge to customers of PATROL Central Console. BMC Reporting Studio, which provides creation and customization of reports on any BMC Software data available to the BMC Reporting Foundation, is priced at $250 per monitored system.
