BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) is garnering significant industry recognition for driving business efficiencies and cost savings in its own IT environment with Business Service Management (BSM). Today, BMC received the CIO 100 award, presented by CIO magazine, recognizing the innovative use of an internal cloud computing environment to achieve maximum return on server and storage investments while supporting BMCs global software development programs.

BMC established a Closed Loop Asset Management process nine months ago to automate the request, provisioning and decommissioning of server and storage resources to individual development projects. Library-style check-out/check-in procedures were developed to recover resources at the conclusion of such projects to ensure datacenter resources are available for reuse and eliminate the common practice of "hoarding" assets during low utilization times.

BMC is using its own BSM solutions including Service Automation, Service Assurance, Service Support and the BMC Atrium platform to automate the asset deployment process. Since the project began, BMC has saved nearly $5 million on the reuse of servers alone while reducing lead times for asset provisioning from four weeks to, in many cases, one business day. The end result is a more streamlined and cost-effective application development process.

The recognition from CIO magazine is a clear validation of BMCs commitment to innovation internally and the value of our BSM solutions, said Mark Settle, chief information officer, BMC. In fact, nearly 70% of CIO 100 honorees are BMC customers. Its gratifying to see our customers recognized for the business achievements they have realized through the use of information technology.
