DALLAS, March 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Belo Corp. (NYSE:BLC) announced today that it has named Lawrence D. "Nick" Nicholson as president and general manager of WVEC-TV (ABC) and Local News on Cable in Hampton/Norfolk, Virginia, effective immediately. He will report to Rick Keilty, Belo senior vice president. Nicholson is currently vice president and general manager at KMSB-TV (FOX) and KTTU-TV (UPN) in Tucson. "Nick brings more than 20 years of distinguished leadership to his new assignment," said Keilty. "His contributions in sales and marketing have helped create strong advertising revenue growth in several markets. Nick has clearly demonstrated his leadership skills by making an immediate impact at KMSB and KTTU in Tucson, and by establishing an impressive track record while serving as vice president/Sales and Marketing at WFAA in Dallas." Nicholson has served as vice president and general manager at KMSB and KTTU since November 2004. Before that he was vice president/Sales and Marketing at WFAA-TV (ABC) in Dallas from 2001 to 2004 and the station's director of sales and marketing from 1995 to 2001. From 1991 to 1995, he worked for WESH-TV, the Hearst-Argyle station in Orlando, Fla., as general sales manager. Nicholson was with Belo station KOTV-TV in Tulsa, Okla., for six years before that, serving as local sales manager from 1985 to 1989 and general sales manager/program manager from 1989 to 1991. He was an account executive at WFAA from 1984 to 1985 and an account executive at WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn., from 1983 to 1984. Nicholson holds the distinction of being among the Company's first television professionals to participate in the Belo Broadcasting Executive Development Training Program from 1982 to 1983. Nicholson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas.
