LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Astoria Federal Savings
Chairman, President and CEO George L. Engelke, Jr., today announced
that Astoria Federal's Oakdale branch located at 1336 Montauk
Highway will officially reopen for business at 8:30 a.m. on Monday,
October 31, 2005. The branch had been closed for a major renovation
following a structural fire that heavily damaged the branch on
December 23, 2004. "Our branch has been a vital part of the Oakdale
community for nearly 30 years and it feels good to be back in the
neighborhood where we can continue our commitment of "Putting
people first." All of us at Astoria Federal very much appreciate
all of the support we have received from the community during the
entire rebuilding process," Mr. Engelke said. While branch
operations fully resume October 31, 2005, Mr. Engelke, Branch
Manager Suzanne Gillan, her staff and others will celebrate the
branch's return to the community by hosting a special Grand
Reopening Celebration from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 5, 2005. At
11 a.m., they will cut a ribbon marking the grand reopening and
plan to be joined by the four Astoria Federal customers (who were
honored this past February with Astoria Federal's first ever
"Putting people first" Awards for helping branch employees quickly
and safely evacuate the building before the local volunteer fire
departments arrived at the branch), as well as members of the West
Sayville, Sayville, East Islip and Bohemia Volunteer Fire
Departments and the Sayville Community Ambulance Corps., and
Suffolk County Police Department, all who responded to the
incident. The entire Oakdale community including Astoria Federal's
customers, members of the Chamber of Commerce, locally elected
officials and the general public are invited to join in the
celebration. "The grand reopening celebration will be followed by a
week of prizes, giveaways, refreshments and special offers for
returning Oakdale customers and any member of the public wishing to
open a new checking account or Certificate of Deposit," Mr. Engelke
said. "It's just great to be back in the neighborhood." For
