Aetna and the Aetna Foundation Granted $620,000 to Texas Nonprofits in 2010

Aetna (NYSE: AET) and the Aetna Foundation together awarded
$620,000 in community grants and sponsorships in Texas during 2010.
The grants were made to organizations addressing a variety of
health issues, including obesity among adults and children, racial
and ethnic equity in health care, and needed improvements in the
integration and coordination of health care services. In addition,
grants were made in support of arts and cultural programs, human
services and academic organizations, faith-based initiatives and
many others.

are working to make a difference on key health and wellness
challenges we face in our communities,” said Ralph Holmes,
president of Aetna’s Texas market.
Grant amounts and recipients include:
In Austin:
- $15,000 to the Health Start
Foundation;
- $15,000 to the Seton Fund of the
Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul, Inc.;
- $5,000 to Junior Achievement of Central
Texas;
- $5,000 to the Junior League of Austin;
and
- $2,500 to the Austin Community
Foundation.
In Dallas/Fort Worth:
- $50,000 to the Community Council of
Greater Dallas;
- $30,000 to the YWCA of Metropolitan
Dallas;
- $25,000 to The American Heart
Association;
- $20,000 Dallas Methodist Hospitals
Foundation, Inc.;
- $16,000 DFW Business Group on
Health;
- $15,000 American Diabetes Association,
Dallas chapter;
- $15,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of
North Texas;
- $15,000 to Greater Dallas Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce;
- $10,000 to Black Tie Dinner, Inc.;
- $10,000 to the Dallas Foundation;

- $15,000 to Precinct2gether, Inc.;
- $10,000 to the Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo Educational Fund;

- $3,500 to the Seven Acres Jewish Senior
Care Services;

In San Antonio:
- $50,000 to the Witte Museum;
- $15,000 to the San Antonio Food
Bank;
- $10,000 to the Barshop Jewish Community
Center;
- $10,000 to the King William
Association;
- $5,000 to the American Diabetes
Association, San Antonio chapter;
- $5,000 to the San Antonio Sports
Foundation; and
- $5,000 to the South Central Texas
Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

provide $15.6 million in grants and sponsorships to 661 nonprofit
organizations nationwide, and to match the generosity of our
employees to another 9,492 organizations within our communities,”

also made significant progress toward our goals of concentrating
our grants on specific health issues of national concern, giving
nearly $2.35 million to the fight against obesity, $1.24 million to
improve racial and ethnic equity in health and health care, and
more than $1 million to support better integrated health care in
America.”
In addition, Aetna employees, retirees and directors donated an
additional $6.9 million through the company's matching gift
program, bringing combined giving in communities where Aetna
employees and customers live and work to $22.5 million. And,
Aetna’s employees donated more than dollars, generously giving
nearly 335,000 hours of their personal time and talents in
communities nationwide. Since 2003, Aetna employees have logged
more than 2.3 million volunteer hours.
