WebMediaBrands’ Inside Network Research Now Tracking Apple App Store Rankings Via AppData.com Data Service

WebMediaBrands (Nasdaq:WEBM) now tracks rankings for mobile
games and applications listed in Apple’s app stores. The service is
run through its Inside Network research division at AppData.com,
and reveals rankings, gains, and losses for top free and paid
applications running on Apple’s iOS platform.
“Mobile applications have shown substantial promise in recent
quarters. We’re now seeing increasing investment and competition in
this space, but the mechanics of growth can sometimes remain
opaque, even to developers,” says Justin Smith, Inside Network’s
founder and lead analyst. “Our goal with the inclusion of iOS data
is to give mobile developers a daily reference point not only for
their own performance but the broader competitive landscape as
well.”
Inside Network’s AppData.com data service has tracked traffic
and growth statistics for applications and developers on the
Facebook platform since 2008. Some developers have ported
applications originally built for Facebook over to Apple’s
platform, where there is opportunity to reach and monetize an
increasing base of users via mobile devices, while others have
focused on building original games and applications specifically
designed for mobile platforms.
The addition of Apple iOS store data now enables developers to
evaluate application performance across multiple platforms. For
those companies exclusively focused on building for mobile
platforms, and for analysts looking at opportunities in mobile
applications, AppData.com’s mobile rankings bring increased
transparency to an emerging marketplace.
