Perry Ellis International (NASDAQ:PERY) announces that Farah
Mfg. Co. will be honored with an exhibit presented by the El
Paso Museum of History as part of the series: El Paso’s Firsts and
El Paso’s Giants. Additionally, a large employee reunion will be
held during this time. Farah became a giant in the U.S. men’s
apparel industry and was started in El Paso, Texas in 1920.
The festivities will begin on Tuesday, May 18th with The City
Council Proclamation schedule at 9 am at the City Hall, followed by
the grand opening of the exhibition on Friday, May 21st at 6:30 pm
and the seminars on Saturday, May 22nd. The exhibition will be
opened to the public from May 21st, 2010 to May 21st, 2011.
Farah, a giant for many reasons, most importantly because it
became a bridge over which tens of thousands of workers passed and
either built or enhanced their professional skills. “With the help
of opportunities Farah offered, many men and women, including first
generation immigrants, gained the ability to provide their families
with better income, health care, and educational opportunities to
advance their futures. The children and grandchildren of these
pioneers have become professionals, as well as business and
community leaders, excelling beyond their parents’ and
grandparents’ wildest dreams,” commented Jim Farah.
Perry Ellis International acquired the Farah brand in 2005 with
great pride and enthusiasm. The original Farah slack made from
hopsack canvas became a legendary trend in the world of pants.
Over the past 90 years, the brand has evolved offering innovative
product through design, fit, functionality and technology. “Farah
is an iconic American brand whose timeless design aesthetics appeal
to a whole new international generation of fashionistas,”commented
George Feldenkries, Chairman and CEO of Perry Ellis International,
the parent company.
The El Paso History Museum Exhibit will include photos, videos
and artifacts of some of the physical history of the Farah. The
reunion, oral histories, lectures and panels will help bring back
to life all the dimensions of the giant’s history and legacy.
Perry Ellis International is proud to sponsor and participate in
the “Farah Today” segment of the exhibition, showcasing marketing
material from the Farah 1920 collection. The new 1920 collection
distills Farah’s heritage into an extraordinary capsule collection
of key Farah pieces from chambray work shirts and army chinos, to
pea coats and selvage denim. Materials and details are inspired by
original pieces from the archive dating from the 1920s to the
1960s, creating an authentic testimonial to the incredible heritage
of this iconic manufacturer. The pieces will be available in store
from September.
Pieces from the Farah Vintage collection will also be showcased.
The Farah Vintage collection is based on the aesthetics of the
brand during its hugely successful time in the 1970’s and 80’s in
the UK, when it was the must have label amongst fashion savvy
hipsters including the Mods, Skins, Stickmen and Rocker Billy’s.
Today the Farah label still holds the heritage and vigor it stood
for then and a whole new generation of men throughout the world are
drawn to the brand’s history and inspired to rediscover the
distinct look for themselves. The Vintage collection is available
in prestigious stores such as American Rag, Urban Outfitters,
Bloomingdales and Fred Segal in the US, Selfridges in the UK, Brown
Thomas in Ireland, Holt Renfrew in Canada, Barneys in Tokyo to name
but a few.
