WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Novell today
announced it has been positioned in the leaders quadrant of
Gartner, Inc.'s, "Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Single Sign-On" by
Gregg Kreizman, Sept. 18, 2008. The company's enterprise single
sign-on solution (ESSO), Novell(R) SecureLogin, helps businesses
manage the complex process of streamlining user access to company
systems. SecureLogin enables employees to use a single, secure
login to authenticate to corporate resources, virtually eliminating
the need to manage multiple passwords and usernames and allowing
enterprises to comply with regulations and reduce IT administration
costs. According to Gartner, enterprises continue to make tactical
investments in ESSO to resolve the problem of users having too many
passwords, with no relief in sight for the next two to three years.
We [Gartner] typically see several types of password-reduction
initiatives in progress in our clients' organizations that can help
reduce password management burdens on users and support
organizations: -- Self-service password reset (SSPR) or
synchronization -- Harmonized and simplified password policies --
Direct integration of stronger authentication with targets --
Application authentication using Active Directory or Lightweight
Directory Access -- Protocol (LDAP) -- Kerberos -- Web single
sign-on (SSO) -- Identity federation In August, Gartner also
positioned Novell in the leaders quadrant of Gartner, Inc.'s,
"Magic Quadrant for User Provisioning," by Earl Perkins and Perry
Carpenter, August 15, 2008. Additionally, in October 2007, Gartner
positioned Novell in the leaders quadrant of Gartner, Inc.'s,
"Magic Quadrant for Web Access Management, 2H07" by Ray Wagner and
Earl Perkins. Novell SecureLogin ensures employees only have to
remember one username and password to authenticate to an
organization's resources and can be given easier and faster access
to applications. The solution can be used as part of an advanced
authentication system -- such as biometrics, smart cards and
proximity cards -- to improve network security and help meet
compliance mandates. With Novell SecureLogin, single sign-on access
can be extended to numerous terminal, Java and Web applications
across multiple operating platforms. "We are pleased to be
positioned in the Gartner Magic Quadrant, which in our opinion,
demonstrates that Novell is developing best-of-breed technologies
to help our customers improve employee productivity, comply with
internal and external mandates and secure their heterogeneous IT
environments," said Jim Ebzery, senior vice president and general
manager for Identity and Security Management at Novell. "Novell
SecureLogin can be integrated with other offerings in our portfolio
of powerful identity, access management, and security and
information event monitoring solutions, to provide customers with a
holistic view of the people, policies and processes across their IT
environment." For more information about Novell's portfolio of
