The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles’ (DMV) website has
once again won an award, this time for the mobile environment. The
newly redesigned, mobile-responsive DMV website, just a few months
after launching, was presented a Mobile WebAward for government
websites by the Web Marketing Association.
The Web Marketing Association (WMA) was founded in
1997 to help set a high standard for internet marketing and
development of the best websites on the World Wide Web. Staffed by
volunteers, this organization is made up of internet marketing,
online advertising, PR, and top website design professionals who
share an interest in improving the quality of online advertising,
internet marketing, and website promotion.
“We are thrilled with the Mobile WebAward,” says Rhonda Lahm,
Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles. “One of our primary
goals was to create a streamlined user experience for anyone who
needs access to the DMV from their phone or tablet, in addition to
the PC. This is validation of the hard work done by our team and
Nebraska Interactive. It sends an encouraging message to Nebraskans
of how easy and intuitive it is to interact with the DMV. Now they
can find what they need by using a mobile device anywhere an
internet connection can be made. That is a big step for us.”
The website redesign required hundreds of hours in planning to
map, edit, remove, or combine content in a logical form intuitive
to the user. “Removing internal agency jargon was important,” Brent
Hoffman, GM of Nebraska Interactive said. “The due diligence
resulted in a well-organized homepage delineated by citizen or
business user. Bringing people together with the services they need
is our mission every day. The DMV and Nebraska Interactive teamwork
is how we were able to get the job done. We thrive on the
collaboration. The award is the cherry on top.”
Services, in most cases, are a single selection away in the
Online Services area, including: Driver License New/Renew/Replace,
Motor Vehicle Registration Renewal, Specialty Plates, Pay a Traffic
Ticket, Suspension & Reinstatements, and the recently launched
Commercial Driver License Renew/Replace as well as Vehicle Title
& Registration, Driver & Vehicle Records, and much more all
housed within one website. For circumstances where clarification is
desired, users can use the Help section, featuring approximately 30
commonly asked questions and a search box.
