ISSI Introduces an Innovative Alternative to CAMs The High
Performance, High Capacity, NuCAM Product Line SANTA CLARA, Calif.,
March 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Integrated Silicon Solution,
Inc. , a leader in advanced memory and network IC solutions, today
launched the NuCAM line of algorithm-based products made available
for communication networking systems. ISSI was the first company in
the industry to offer a 533 MSPS (million searches per second)
CAM-based multi-search intelligent processor and its patent-pending
fine granularity intelligent CAMtile architecture for embedded
purposes. Now it is offering the first in a line of algorithm-based
products specifically targeting the table lookup bottleneck in high
performance communication network (switch/router) systems. System
and chipset vendors looking to support very large network table
look-ups can now do so at a fraction of the power and cost of
traditional CAM-based solutions. The IS52VV100 longest prefix match
(LPM) search processor, the first member of the NuCAM product line,
is the only such match search solution that efficiently handles
both the look-up speeds and the table-entry density required for
next generation networking systems. The product takes advantage of
ISSI's patent-pending algorithmic techniques utilizing embedded
memory and commodity SRAMs and DRAMs. "ISSI's NuCAM product line
offers the networking community an innovative alternative to the
CAM by providing a low cost, low power solution for large database
tables where the cost and power consumption of a CAM can be
prohibitive," said Nelson Chow, ISSI's Senior Director of Network
Search Products. The IS52VV100 can support 1 million 32-bit IPv4
route entries and performs LPM searches into the table at 33MSPS
using generic 200MHz RLDRAM parts. Tables can be updated quickly
and automatically. The algorithm provides deterministic search
performance, deterministic latency, deterministic capacity, and
deterministic table update times. This provides a high-speed,
cost-effective solution for tackling next generation million-entry
IPv4 tables and makes this device ideally suited for applications
in Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR). In addition, the
algorithm technique on which the NuCAM product line isbased is
being made available for customization. The algorithm performance
can be scaled from 16 MSPS to 300+ MSPS, and the density is
scalable from 1 to 30+ million 32-bit IPv4 route entries, depending
on the particular price/performance the customerwishes to attain.
Packaging and Availability The IS52VV100 LPM search processor is
offered in a Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA and as an embedded IP for ASIC
customers. Both are available for immediate delivery. Please
contact ISSI for price and availability. An IS52VV100 design kit
and demo, along with product briefs, white papers, and application
notes are available on ISSI's web site at http://www.issi.com/.
