Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that Guillaume de la Roche, Ph.D, a wireless system engineer at Mindspeed, will participate as a speaker and co-organizer of the Workshop on Cooperative Heterogeneous Networks (coHetNet 2011) today at the Sheraton Hotel and Resorts, in Maui, Hawaii.

The coHetNet event is held in conjunction with the International Conference on Computer Communications and Networks (ICCCN 2011). ICCCN has served as one of the leading international conferences for presenting novel ideas and fundamental advances in the fields of computer communications and networks. ICCCN is a week-long conference co-sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communications Society and annually attracts top wireless and long-term evolution (LTE) researchers from industry and academia.

“With our Transcede® family of system-on-chip (SoC) devices for next-generation LTE and dual-mode base stations, Mindspeed continues to provide leadership in the advancement of heterogeneous networks featuring smaller network elements such as remote radio heads, picocells, metrocells and femtocells,” said Dr. Guillaume de la Roche. “As the number of cells increases and the distance between the users and their serving cells are reduced, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and, therefore, higher capacity, will be achieved. The aim of this workshop will be to identify and discuss all recent challenges and developments related to cooperative techniques in HetNets, and establish future research directions.”

The coHetNet workshop was organized by Dr. de la Roche and co-chairs David López-Pérez of Kings College London, U.K and Mischa Dohler of the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya (CTTC), Barcelona, Spain.

Dr. de la Roche recently joined Mindspeed after a distinguished research career with an emphasis on radio propagation, femtocells and heterogeneous networks, and channel modeling for LTE network planning. Most recently, Dr. de la Roche served as a research fellow at the Centre for Wireless Network Design (CWiND) at the University of Bedfordshire, U.K. He received a Ph.D in Wireless Communication from the National Institute of Applied Science (INSA) and is co-author of the book Femtocells: Technologies and Deployment (Wiley, 2010).
