Marsh Stores to Offer 'Day Fresh' Budweiser on May 6 INDIANAPOLIS, May 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thanks to a special arrangement between Marsh Supermarkets Inc. , which is known as "Experts in Fresh," and Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser beer drinkers throughout Indiana will have a special treat on Thursday, May 6. They will be able to purchase "day fresh" Budweiser on the same day it is packaged. All Indiana Marsh supermarkets that sell beer and wine will participate in the national event, which Anheuser-Busch has designated as "Freshness Days." On select dates -- May 6 for Indiana -- Budweiser trucks will pick up beer packaged that morning and deliver it to targeted wholesalers, who will in turn deliver it to Marsh outlets. "This event allows Marsh customers to buy the freshest beer available," said Don E. Marsh, chairman and CEO of the regional food store chain. "The average retail age of Budweiser on the shelf is 35 days, so this really adds to our image as the food retailer that emphasizes 'fresh,'" said Marsh. Anheuser-Busch has used a packaging date for its products since it introduced its consumer-friendly "Born On" date coding on September 2, 1996. The company's 12 U.S.-based breweries and a network of about 600 independent wholesalers reduce delivery time and ensure that fresh beer is in retail accounts shortly after packaging. The company says Budweiser remains at the peak of its freshness and taste within 110 days of the "Born On" date. Budweiser is brewed by Anheuser-Busch Inc., the leading U.S. brewer that holds a 50 percent share in Grupo Modelo, Mexico's leading brewer. In a survey of 10,000 business leaders and securities analysts, Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. ranked first overall in quality of products and services among nearly 600 companies researched in FORTUNE magazine's 2004 "America's Most Admired Companies" listing. The company also is one of the largest theme park operators in the United States, is a major manufacturer of aluminum cans and is the world's largest recycler of aluminum beverage containers.
