'CitySync' Ushers in Safe Cities of the Future
October 16 2013 - 3:00PM
Shrinking city resources. Growing crime rates. Increased security
and parking needs. Jamming traffic. The future of our cities seems
destined to be inadequately prepared to meet such challenges. Until
you learn that Image Sensing Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ISNS), a global
leader in above-ground technology solutions, is dedicating
significant resources to its "CitySync" initiative to improve
safety and efficiency for cities and highways.
"The world is ripe for new solutions," said Kris Tufto, CEO of
Image Sensing Systems. "As the pioneer that invented video
detection and radar detection, Image Sensing Systems has a legacy
of innovation, and will continue to use imagination to anticipate
and solve the critical issues facing our cities. ISS Labs is
already investigating new ways to apply sensing capabilities that
connect the physical and digital worlds – as is done with Google
Glass and other barrier-breaking products – to make our cities more
livable, efficient and sustainable."
Through this research arm, Image Sensing Systems is investing
thought leadership into CitySync by investigating new ways to
combine leading-edge above-ground detection technology, radar, Big
Data collection and analysis to give law enforcement, security,
parking and traffic management professionals more precise and
accurate information. With increased real-time reaction
capabilities and in-depth analytics, these professionals will be
able to make more confident and proactive decisions that will
streamline operations and improve safety.
In addition, Image Sensing Systems is offering its expertise and
influence to help decision-makers work together and unify efforts
through shared data and technology, as part of its CitySync
initiative.
The first of its official CitySync initiatives, Image Sensing
Systems will preview its breakthrough new data analytics software,
CitySync Safety, at the International Association of Chiefs of
Police Conference, which begins October 20 in Philadelphia. The
back office solution automatically turns data collected from
license plate recognition (LPR) technology into crisply analyzed
information, enabling law enforcement investigators to quickly
extract the critical evidence they need to move from crime to
conviction faster.
CitySync Safety will be available for on-premise and cloud-based
applications in January in the United States, and already is being
leveraged successfully globally to solve cases from petty theft to
major crimes. In the United Kingdom, for example, investigators
pinpointed the vehicle used by a pickpocket and arrested him two
hours after he stole a woman's credit card and used it in multiple
locations. In another case, investigators combined license plate
recognition technology, security footage from a gas station and
data analysis to identify and ultimately convict a man of starting
a house fire that killed three people and seriously injured two
others.
Image Sensing Systems worked closely with
Minneapolis-development company Agosto, a Google Apps and
cloud-consulting firm, to bring CitySync Safety to fruition. And
Tufto foresees more CitySync opportunities for future
collaboration.
"As cities try to do more with less, most have yet to fully
realize the benefit of interconnected efforts," said Tufto.
"CitySync is a unified solution – and ambition – that leverages
innovative technology and mutual cooperation to make our cities
safer and operationally more cost effective."
