Foster Wheeler AG (Nasdaq: FWLT) announced today that a
subsidiary of its Global Power Group has been awarded contracts to
supply solar steam generator systems to two separate solar projects
in Spain.
The first of the two contracts is with UTE Africa Solar, the
Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the
La Africana Solar Thermal Power Plant, located in Fuente Palmera
(Cordoba, Spain) to supply steam generating components (feedwater
heaters, preheaters, evaporators, superheaters, and reheaters) for
a single 50 MWe train thermal plant. The equipment will be
integrated into a concentrated parabolic trough thermal solar plant
using molten salts to store the sun’s energy and provide additional
hours of plant operation without sun radiation. The equipment
delivery is scheduled for second-quarter 2012. Foster Wheeler will
also provide site advisory services during the plant’s
commissioning phase.
The second of the two contracts is with UTE Termosolar Olivenza
(a joint venture created by Acciona and Seridom), the EPC
contractor for the Olivenza Solar Thermal Power Plant, located in
Olivenza (Badajoz, Spain) to supply a similar scope as that of the
La Africana project. This 50 MWe plant consists of 2 x 25 MWe
trains and also utilizes concentrated parabolic trough technology
with thermal oil as the heat transfer fluid. The equipment delivery
is scheduled for first-quarter 2012.
Foster Wheeler has received full notices to proceed on both
contracts. The terms of the agreements were not disclosed, and the
contract values were included in the company’s first-quarter 2011
bookings.
"Undoubtedly, these awards are recognition of our commitment to
solar energy and our client’s confidence in Foster Wheeler as a
reliable thermal solar equipment supplier,” said Jesús Martí, Chief
Executive Officer of Foster Wheeler Energia, S.L. in Madrid. “Since
1973 we have been a leader in the solar thermal power market and
are thrilled to be a part of its fast paced future.”
