Fairchild Semiconductor Wins Two EEPW Power Products Awards for Innovation
June 10 2010 - 11:01AM

Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier
of high performance power and mobile products, received two
prestigious Best Innovation prizes in the annual Power Products
Awards from Electronic Engineering and Product World (EEPW), one of
China’s leading electronic design publications.
The FAN9612 boundary-conduction mode (BCM) interleaving power
factor correction (PFC) controller received a Best Innovative Award
in the power management category. While the FDMS7605, the
industry’s first sub-one mOhm 30V MOSFET in a Power 56 package,
also picked up a Best Innovative Award, in the highly competitive
power component category.
The award winning FAN9612 provides over 96 percent power
conversion efficiency for AC-DC power supplies. Applications
include power supplies for digital TVs, desktop and entry-level
server computers, front-end telecom systems and industrial power
systems rated from 100W to 1000W. With the industry adoption of PFC
as a means of reducing energy waste at the point of distribution,
the interleaved PFC is becoming a more sophisticated way of
maximizing energy savings in today’s energy-conscious world.
The FDMS7650, functions as a load switch or an ORing FET. In
server farms, these ORing FETs are used when many power supplies
are arranged in parallel to share the load. Dissipating less power
and delivering higher efficiency is critical for the overall
efficiency of these server farms because the FETs are continually
on. The FDMS7650 has a MAX RDS(ON) of only 0.99mOhm, reducing
conduction losses and improving the overall efficiency of the
application.
This award winning 30V MOSFET, the FDMS7650, can deliver the
same total RDS(ON) with half the number of FETs. The device is able
to achieve this through Fairchild's advanced-performance
PowerTrench® MOSFET technology. This technology yields an
exceptionally low RDS(ON), total gate charge (QG) and Miller Charge
(QGD) – enhancements that result in high efficiency by minimizing
conduction and switching losses.
Fairchild’s representative accepted the awards at a presentation
ceremony held in Shenzhen during the 7th Green Power and Power
Management Seminar 2010 on 8 June.
“We are proud to accept this award, which clearly demonstrates
our ability to design and develop products that meet the very
specific needs of engineers in China,” said Benjamin Tan,
Fairchild’s regional vice president of Sales and Marketing, China
and South East Asia. “The fact that we have two energy efficiency
products, in the innovation categories underscores our commitment
to assisting China and the engineers in this region meet the region
and the world’s requirements for improved efficiency in all
products.”
