Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS), a leading global supplier of
high performance products that enable energy-efficiency, was
recently awarded a Best Company and the Best Energy Management
Team at the Pursuit of Excellence in Energy Management
Conference in Cebu. Fairchild Cebu was recognized for outstanding
achievements in energy management and its energy team was
recognized for their outstanding contribution to the companys
energy-conservation achievements. The judges also praised Fairchild
for its well-established and integrated energy-conservation
processes, its regular monitoring processes, and its target
settings based on specific time periods. Earlier this year,
Fairchild implemented a global Energy and Environmental Design Team
to identify energy-conservation projects at its major manufacturing
sites worldwide. This team, comprised of individuals from Fairchild
locations around the world, meets on a regular basis to share best
practices and suggestions on fostering corporate responsibility,
reducing operating costs through energy conservation and reducing
the impact on the climate. The Cebu team, which is part of the
companys global Energy and Environmental Design Team, highlighted
nearly 30 energy efficiency projects that were completed between
July 2006 and September 2008. These projects alone resulted in
reducing the companys energy usage by more than 1,000 kilowatts.
Some of the projects included installing variable-speed motors in
pumps and fans, installing timers and replacing inefficient
equipment with energy-efficient systems. The Fairchild Cebu
facility has already reached its 2008 target to reduce energy use
by 1.7 million kilowatt hours. Fairchild Semiconductor has been
actively involved in energy conservation since 1997. Some company
accomplishments include: Reduced internet technology/server power
consumption by 43 percent. Reduced water usage by over 53 million
gallons. Using wind energy as an alternate power source. Reduced
energy consumption by over 40 percent in one location. Installed
variable-speed motors, turned off equipment when not in use,
installed timers on lights, utilized on-demand heating and cooling,
modified temperature sensors, installed skylights and switched to
CFL/LFL light bulbs. Recycled nearly 40,000 tons of non-hazardous
material from 2000 through 2007. The Pursuit of Excellence in
Energy Management conference was designed to highlight the
challenges companies are facing in dealing with increasing energy
prices. This is the first Energy Management Conference for economic
zones and was jointly organized by Mactan Export Processing Zone
Chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers (MEPZCEM), Philippine
Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) and German Technical Cooperation
(GTZ) through the Eco-Industrial Development (EID) project, in
partnership with Department of Energy (DOE), Philippine Efficient
Lighting Market Transformation Project (PELMATP), Department of
Science and Technology (DOST) and Aboitiz Land Inc. (Aboland).
