Readers said that Fairchild�s Green FPS power switch has �potential to save substantial amounts of energy� and shows the in-roads Fairchild is making in enabling green applications. Fairchild�s FSFR2100 offers a dramatic improvement in efficiency in resonant converter designs such as telecom power, high-end audio amplifiers, large-size laser printers and LCD and TV power supplies. Compared to conventional hard-switch converter topologies, efficiency is improved by 10 percent and for applications such as PDP-TVs, efficiency reaches 97 percent. Through its burst operation function, the FSFR2100 reduces standby power consumption to below 1W to easily achieve the industry�s 1Watt Initiative. Efficiency is extremely important in power supplies. In standby mode alone, appliances consume five percent of residential energy worldwide.
