Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE:FCS) FDC6020C was recently named an
"Ultimate Product" by the editors and readers of EETimes and
eeProductCenter. Introduced by Fairchild in December 2004, the
FDC6020C is the smallest complementary MOSFET solution for
point-of-load (POL) converter designs that deliver 1 amp continuous
current. "Fairchild's FDC6020C integrates two MOSFETs into one
ultra-small SuperSOT(TM)-6 FLMP (Flip-chip in a Leaded Molded
Package)," said Mike Speed, Fairchild's communications segment
marketing manager. "This is a significant packaging advancement
since traditional solutions must use either two devices or a larger
footprint package to offer similar high-performance
specifications." In addition to saving space, the SuperSOT-6 FLMP
enables the FDC6020C to achieve a junction-to-case thermal
resistance (1 degree C/W) and junction-to-ambient thermal
resistance (68 degrees C/W). The result is the highest possible
current densities that simultaneously maintain optimum operating
temperatures. Vince Biancomano of EETimes said of the winning
product: "The device's low-threshold gate voltage also works to the
designer's advantage in many applications." The excellent thermal
and efficiency characteristics of the FDC6020C solution benefit
products like set-top boxes, digital still cameras and hard disk
drives. Editor's Note: For more information about this product, go
