EDN magazine has named the PSoC® 3 and PSoC 5 programmable system-on-chip architectures and the PSoC Creator™ software tool from Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ:CY) as finalists for this year’s EDN Innovation Awards. The new PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 architectures dramatically increase performance and extend the world’s only programmable analog and digital embedded design platform, delivering unmatched integration and flexibility across 8-, 16-, and 32-bit applications. The platform is powered by the revolutionary PSoC Creator Integrated Development Environment, which enables engineers to design the way they think and dramatically shorten time-to-market. EDN’s editors selected the Cypress solutions from hundreds of nominations, with the PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 devices named in the Microcontrollers category and the PSoC Creator IDE named in the Software/Embedded Tools category.

Instituted in 1990, the Innovation Awards honor the people, products, and technologies that have shaped the semiconductor industry over the past year. Through March 19, EDN’s worldwide audience of electronic engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among the finalists. EDN’s editorial staff also takes part in determining the final winners. Winners will be announced at a reception and awards ceremony on April 26, in San Jose. More information on the nominees and voting for the winners is available at www.edn.com/innovation20.

PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 offer high-precision programmable analog including 12- to 20-bit ADCs, digital logic libraries full of dozens of drop-in peripherals, best-in-class power management and rich connectivity resources. The PSoC Creator IDE introduces a unique schematic-based design methodology along with fully tested, pre-packaged analog and digital peripherals easily customizable through user-intuitive wizards and APIs to meet specific design requirements. More information on the PSoC platform is available at www.cypress.com/go/psoc, and free downloads of PSoC Creator are available at www.cypress.com/go/psoccreator.

“It is an honor to have the respected editors of EDN select our PSoC 3 and PSoC 5 architectures and accompanying PSoC Creator Software IDE as finalists, and to have the worldwide electronics engineering community consider the platform for Innovation Awards,” said Norm Taffe, executive vice president of the Consumer and Computation Division at Cypress. “I fully believe the new PSoC platform represents a revolutionary shift in embedded design, enabling developers to use programmable resources to create, change and reuse designs quickly and efficiently in software.”
