NEW YORK (DOW JONES)--AOL Inc. (AOL) Monday became the eighth advertiser to part ways for now with Rush Limbaugh's syndicated radio program after the conservative talk-show host denounced a female law student on-air, prompting a firestorm of protests.

"We have monitored the unfolding events and have determined that Mr. Limbaugh's comments are not in line with our values. As a result we have made the decision to suspend advertising on The Rush Limbaugh Radio show," AOL posted on its Facebook.com page.

A spokeswoman for AOL confirmed the comments in an emailed statement.

There were also reports Monday that Sears Holdings Corp. (SHLD) had pulled its advertising. However, a Sears spokeswoman said the company "did not intentionally advertise on the Rush Limbaugh show."

Sears "has taken actions to ensure our ads do not run on this show. We appreciate our customers, fans and followers and thank you for your business," the spokeswoman said.

Advertisers including Proflowers.com and Citrix Systems Inc. (CTXS) already have pulled their advertising dollars from Limbaugh's programs.

Limbaugh, who has a long history as a conservative provocateur, last week sparked public anger by calling the third-year law student a "slut" for her views on insurance coverage for contraception.

In a written statement Saturday, the announcer backtracked, "I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices."
