Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS) announced today that Citrix® NetScaler® MPX™ has achieved Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2, Level 2 compliance. Department of Defense and federal civilian agencies with strict FIPS requirements can now use the new Citrix NetScaler MPX FIPS models to provide trusted security for encrypted Web traffic, which is becoming an increasingly critical component in military and government communication.

The FIPS 140-2 standard defines information technology security accreditation for cryptographic modules produced by private sector vendors for use in government departments and regulated industries that collect, store, transfer, share or disseminate “sensitive but unclassified” (SBU) information. The new FIPS-compliant NetScaler appliances provide organizations with additional security by protecting unauthorized access to cryptographic keys, which if misappropriated could result in a data security breach. The NetScaler solutions support all web application delivery capabilities, including load balancing, application firewall security, and essential server offload functions.

The new models are also Level 3-hardware ready with security features designed to prevent intruders from gaining access to the critical security parameters when the module’s removable covers or doors are opened. Tamper proof detection, response circuitry and role-based authentication are just a few of the Level 3 hardware mechanisms included.

An added benefit of Citrix NetScaler MPX FIPS is the ability to scale SSL performance – from 1 Gbps up to more than 4.5 Gbps with the simple purchase and application of a software license. Government customers can now leverage the Company’s popular Pay-as-You-Grow model, and virtually eliminate the need for expensive hardware replacements. Citrix is now shipping the new Citrix NetScaler MPX FIPS models.

Quotes

Tom Simmons, area vice president – US Public Sector at Citrix

“With FIPS compliance, Citrix gives our Department of Defense and federal civilian agency customers the leading technology for accelerating the performance of web-based applications and improving the security of those web applications. And, the ability to scale SSL performance without physically replacing any equipment makes it easier for government users to accommodate more users without delay – and without compromising security.”

Lee Eilers, information technology manager, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

"FIPS-compatible encryption gives CDC the ability to reach our resources from anywhere in the world. And, because about 70 percent of our users access our data and applications from outside our network with personal equipment, FIPS compliance and the ability to differentiate between government-owned and non-government-owned equipment is critically important to our IT security."

Joe Brown, president, Accelera Solutions

“Security and data encryption is a demand that continues to grow. The availability of a FIPS-compliant solution from Citrix to handle encrypted Web traffic gives us a new level of solutions to offer both the Department of Defense and civilian agencies.”
