Praetorian(TM) and Centurion(TM) EMI Filter ASIP(TM) Devices
Address Critical Performance and Space Requirements MILPITAS,
Calif., Oct. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- California Micro Devices
(NASDAQ:CAMD) today announced a new family of packaged Praetorian
and Centurion EMI (electromagnetic interference) filter ASIP
(Application Specific Integrated Passive(TM)) devices that feature
superior EMI filtering performance combined with robust ESD
(electrostatic discharge) protection in the thinnest and most
compact packages available for use in mobile handsets. The new
CM16XX series ASIP devices are available in 0.4mm pitch uDFN
packages with a typical thickness of 0.50mm, providing space
savings of up to 42 percent compared to existing 0.5mm pitch DFN
packages. The new family of ASIP products features the CM1690
Praetorian architecture LC EMI filter ASIP device with ESD
protection. Praetorian architecture LC ASIP devices, which feature
the industry's highest level of EMI filter performance for high
resolution display and imager interfaces, are now available in the
industry's smallest form factor package. (Photo: NewsCom:

With the adoption of higher resolution color displays and camera
imagers spreading to a larger segment of the handset market, there
is a growing need for EMI filters that offer higher cutoff
frequencies while providing a greater level of attenuation
performance at the frequency band of 800 MHz through 3.0GHz.
Additionally, with a continuing trend toward smaller and thinner
handsets, designers are seeking thinner profile solutions that will
fit within the critical space constraints of these new designs. The
new CM16XX family of small form factor uDFN EMI filter ASIP devices
from CMD address these critical filter performance requirements,
along with innovative new packaging that helps wireless handset
designers solve critical space constraint issues. Engineers no
longer have to compromise performance for form factor. Key Features
The new CM16XX family of uDFN EMI filter ASIP devices offers
handset designers the flexibility to choose a solution optimized
for both price and performance with a series of pin compatible
Centurion RC and Praetorian LC architecture EMI filter ASIP
devices. Attenuation is a critical factor in selecting filters; the
uDFN offerings from CMD provide superior attenuation in the
frequency band from 800 MHz to 3.0GHz. Superior filter performance
across all channels is achieved through the large area ground pad
on the bottom of the uDFN package which minimizes ground
inductance. The CM16XX series of uDFN filter ASIP devices is
backward compatible with CMD's previous offerings of 0.4 mm pitch
TDFNs as well as our competitors' offerings of TDFN and DFN
packages, so engineers can significantly reduce the thickness of
their mobile products without having to redesign their PC boards.
Each of the new devices provides ESD protection up to +/-15kV
contact discharge per IEC61000-4-2 Level 4 specification, which
makes them suitable for practically all mobile applications.
Significant Space Savings The Praetorian and Centurion uDFN product
families are available in 4, 6, and 8 channel configurations. The
new 4 channel devices require 42 percent less board space than with
competing filters using 0.5mm pitch TDFN packages. For the 6
channel and 8 channel versions, space savings of approximately 30
percent can be achieved. The package dimensions of the 4, 6 and 8
channel versions are: 1.7mm x 1.35mm (8 leads), 2.5mm x 1.35mm (12
leads) and 3.3mm x 1.35mm (16 leads) respectively. CMD's CM16XX
family of uDFN products should be considered for new designs which
have critical height constraints, and by all designs which would
like to exploit the superior filter performance offered by these
low profile parts. The following table outlines the general
specifications of interest to designers. More complete
