BENTHOS, INC. (NASDAQ: BTHS) announced today that it has recently received orders to provide wireless underwater acoustic communications that will be utilized for tsunami warning systems. These orders are valued at approximately $750,000. A substantial majority of these orders is for wireless underwater acoustic communication components that will be integrated into systems for U.S.-based tsunami warning initiatives. The components include subsea and surface modem electronics, which will be used to outfit additional tsunami buoys to provide improved coverage to the United States coastline and the Pacific and Caribbean basins. A smaller portion of the orders is for the Benthos SMART Release SR-100, which is a combined modem and acoustic release product. These will be used as the underwater acoustic communication and recovery solution for a commercially available tsunami warning system. The SR-100's internal modem electronics will provide a wireless acoustic communication link that transmits data from pressure recorders on the seafloor that detect the increased pressure of a tsunami to surface buoys. The SR-100's release mechanism also provides the ability to retrieve entire subsea units for maintenance and servicing on an ongoing basis. These tsunami warning systems will be installed in East Asian waters. Commenting on these orders, Benthos President and CEO, Ronald L.
