University of Phoenix today announced that Dr. Alan Drimmer has been named Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs and Provost of the University, effective May 2, 2011. Dr. Drimmer will report to Dr. Bill Pepicello, President of University of Phoenix.

Dr. Drimmer brings a wealth of academic leadership experience to University of Phoenix. Most recently, he served as President of Western International University (WIU), a position he held since 2009. Prior to WIU, Dr. Drimmer served as Chief Executive Officer of American Intercontinental University (AIU), and President of AIU Online.

“We are most fortunate to have Alan join the University’s academic leadership team,” said Dr. Pepicello. “Throughout his career, Alan has shown a true commitment to academic rigor, financial discipline and, most importantly, to consistent student success.”

Previously in his career, Dr. Drimmer held leadership roles with Cardean University, Cornell University’s eCornell subsidiary and the Corporate Executive Board's Learning and Development Roundtable. He also served as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, an official at the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control and a diplomat at the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan.

Dr. Drimmer earned his Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from the University of Chicago. He also holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, Dr. Drimmer completed doctoral work at Harvard University and The RAND Corporation.

Dr. Drimmer replaces Dr. Adam Honea, who has served as Provost of the University since 2007. Dr. Honea will continue to serve the University in the leadership role of Senior Vice President of Academic Research. Dr. Honea will direct a variety of ongoing academic projects, including the integration of Academics with new learning platform, as well as oversight of the University’s Academic Research Group.
