Additional Statements by William Silva President, Maytag Aircraft
Corporation Correcting the Misinformation Regarding the Termination
of Two Employees Who Photographed Caskets of Military Personnel
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- "Given recent
interviews and media reports that have mischaracterized the
termination of Ms. Silicio and Mr. Landry, I am pleased to provide
this additional background and information. Department of Defense
policy expressly prohibits photography of fallen U.S. military
members in transit without prior consent. Additionally, Kuwait City
International Airport regulations and local U.S. Air Force
Operating Instructions also prohibit photography of flight line
operations. All Maytag employees are required to follow these
policies and instructions. All Maytag employees clearly understand
these requirements. The two employees that were terminated had
asked for permission to take and publish photographs of the caskets
and the Military Command emphatically denied those requests. Ms.
Silicio was not acting in her official capacity when she entered
the cargo aircraft and photographed the caskets. She was directly
instructed by aircraft personnel not to take photographs and she
did anyway. Mr. Landry's requests to publish the photographs were
twice denied. They knew the rules. They asked to break the rules.
They were told 'no' and then they went and broke the rules anyway
and that's why they were terminated." Maytag Aircraft Corporation
