Baldwin Technology Company, Inc. (AMEX: BLD), a leading global
manufacturer of press accessories and control equipment, announced
today that its Japanese subsidiary has secured major equipment
orders from several Japanese newspaper groups. The total value of
the orders, which include automatic blanket cleaning and spray
dampening systems, is approximately $3.5 million. The Yomiuri
Newspaper Company, which has the largest circulation in Japan with
more than 10 million copies printed each day, ordered IMPACT(R)
automatic blanket cleaning systems to be installed on new
Mitsubishi presses at the company's Kyushu plant. Previously,
Yomiuri had ordered Baldwin spray dampening systems for these new
presses. The Asahi Newspaper Company, which prints Japan's second
largest newspaper, the Asahi, which has a daily circulation of 8.2
million, also placed orders for Baldwin's spray dampening systems.
This order is part of a larger project where Baldwin will also
supply spray bars to presses at three of Asahi's printing plants.
Installation of the equipment is scheduled to begin in June.
Baldwin's Japanese subsidiary also won an order to supply spray
dampening systems to the Kobe Newspaper Company for its plant near
Osaka. Vijay C. Tharani, Vice President and CFO, said, "The orders
from these newspaper companies are a reflection of their confidence
in the capability of Baldwin's products and technology to meet the
challenges of reducing press downtime and waste material,
increasing print quality and press productivity as well as
improving compliance with environmental requirements." About
