Definition of European Monetary Union (EMU)
This comprises France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal and Ireland. It is the body responsible for establishing the Euro, which replaced the national currencies of EMU members in 2002.
