French industrial production increased sharply on month in June,
beating analysts' forecasts, data from France's statistics agency
Insee showed Friday.
Total industrial output--comprising output in manufacturing,
energy and construction--rose 12.7% in June from May in
calendar-adjusted terms. Economists had forecast a 7.9% increase in
June, according to a poll by The Wall Street Journal.
Compared with February, the last month before the coronavirus
pandemic hit Europe, total industrial output fell 11.0% in
calendar-adjusted terms.
Manufacturing output--excluding energy and construction--was up
14.4% in June compared with May, while energy production grew 4.1%
and construction rose 12.0%.
The French industrial-sector data comes after German industrial
production figures earlier today, which showed a 8.9% increase in
June from May.
