    AGM Trading Update 
    The following statement will be made by the Chairman of Charteris, Cliff Preddy, at the Company's Annual General Meeting to be held at
10:00a.m. today:
    In the preliminary announcement of the 2008 year end results, we reported that whilst we continued to see opportunities for growth in
several of the sectors that we serve, the uncertainty in the wider economy was leading to delays in clients' decision making and the award
of new contracts. We have, as indicated at that time, taken a number of steps to ensure that costs remain aligned with near-to-medium term
business projections whilst preserving the strengths of the business. Profitability in the second half is expected to benefit from these
actions.
    Progress along the lines previously outlined includes:
    *     We have continued to expand our activities in the public sector.  In Local and Regional Government there has been particular
interest in our Customer (Citizen) Centric approach to organisational change delivering improved services at a lower cost.  This has led to
the award of a new contract with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council to undertake a strategic review of their revenue
collection process; and
    *     Our Northern business unit is working with Microsoft on a proof of concept for a major public sector client. The engagement
utilises a full range of Microsoft business software products to automate business processes and enable effective performance management
across a national operating unit. 
    Trading conditions are expected to remain difficult for the remainder of the financial year to 31 July 2009 and market sentiment in the
post Christmas period will be a key factor to sales being realised.  The pipeline of potential new sales remains broadly consistent with the
outlook for the business described at the time of the preliminary announcement.
