Royal Dutch Shell reported an operational disruption and above-normal emissions at its Deer Park refining and chemical facility near Houston.

In a statement late Monday to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the refinery said the "process upset" happened due to an overpressure situation of gas compressors, but that the "process safely slowed [and] unplugged compressor."

The above-normal emissions of sulfur dioxide and other gases happened Sunday and lasted eight hours, it said.

Deer Park is located along the Houston Ship Channel, 20 miles east of downtown Houston. The facility includes a 326,000-barrel-a-day refinery.
