Siemens Energy AG said Wednesday that it has signed a contract with Estonian transmission system operator Elering AS to build three synchronous condenser plants in the north of Estonia.

The German energy company said the three 330-kilovolt plants will provide short-circuit power to the national energy grid and provide or absorb reactive power. It will also help manage the integration of renewable energy sources.

Each of the new plants will provide the grid with up to 1,750 megawatt-seconds of inertia, the company said.

Siemens Energy will be responsible for the design, supply and installation of the plants, which will be commissioned successively between April 2023 and May 2024.

Siemens Energy didn't disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
